Case study: NTUC Club

For NTUC Club, which runs the entertainment arm of NTUC and manages entities such as its theme parks and resorts, the organisation’s pro-family benefits are aimed at helping its 420 employees balance the demands of family and work.

Some of NTUC Club’s pro-family benefits include:

• Family care leave

Employees can apply for family care leave on full-pay up to five working days per calendar year to look after their spouse, parents and parents-in-law when they fall sick.

• Child care leave

Prior to the government’s implementation of the Unconditional Child Care Leave (UCL), NTUC Club has been allowing employees to claim Child Sick Leave (with a medical certificate) up to five working days for each child aged 12 years old and below. This is subject to a maximum of 15 days per year.

After the implementation of the six days UCL, NTUC Club continued to provide Child Sick Leave for employees with children 12 years old and below, subject to a maximum of 15 days per year. These 15 days includes the government’s six mandatory UCL days, which can only be taken for children aged seven and below.

For example, Employee A has one child aged 4 and another child aged 9 yrs old. She will receive 6 days UCL for the younger child and additional 4 days Child Sick Leave from the company.

• Maternity ward charges

Female employees can claim maternity ward charges ranging from S$110 to S$240 per day for room and board. They can also receive lump sum of S$250 to S$600 for delivery charges, subject to a maximum of three days per child up to three living children.

• Maternity Leave

Pregnant employees can apply for extra of two months no-pay leave after the first four months of maternity leave on a “no question asked basis”. They can have the option of conversion from full-time to part-time work for mothers with children under aged two, on a “no question asked basis”. The conversion could be for the full period of two years or a part of the two years.

• Newborn Gift

A childbirth gift value of S$100 upon the birth of a child for both male and female employees.

• Vacation Subsidy Scheme

Employees are allowed to claim S$290 per year (for those with less than ten years of service) and S$350 per year (for those with ten years of service or more).
