BIZARRE HR
Japan - If you're hoping for a promotion this year, perhaps you should take some lessons from Tama the cat, who was recently promoted at work.
Wakayama Electric Railway Co. recently announced that it would promote 10-year-old female cat Tama to the position of operating officer. Tama is currently a stationmaster at Kishi Station on the Kishikawa Line, and will continue to serve in that position while assuming her new role.
According to a company official, this promotion is in recognition of her contribution to expanding the customer base. She is also the first cat in the world to become an executive of a railroad company, said the company official.
Tama was first appointed as a stationmaster in January 2007 and was promoted to the position of "super stationmaster" a year later. Publicity around Tama's role has helped increase passenger numbers by about 300,000 to 2.2 million, report local new sources.
"Tama has also contributed to drawing public attention back to felines as dogs continue to enjoy greater popularity," said president Mitsunobu Kojima.
However, Tama refrained from accepting an increase in wages, which is paid in cat food, as she has gained 0.3kg in the last three years.
