Chief financial analyst allegedly fired for harassing intern

An analyst at Sands China was allegedly fired after sending inappropriate text messages to a colleague.

Reports of the case first came out last week, after finance blogger Cao Shi Shan (曹山石) posted on his Sina Weibo the exchange in WeChat between a person identified by Ming Pao as Huang Jie (黃潔) and a girl who is believed to be an intern. The case was then widely reported by local and mainland media.

Huang started the conversation in WeChat saying "This is a vanity fair, are you willing (to be part of it)?" The respondent replied "What do you mean?".

Huang went on to say he thinks she is good looking and has potential, but doesn't seem to be committed.

"Maybe it is because of pressure from work, I really need to relax. I am here tomorrow in the morning and will return to Hong Kong in the afternoon. I hope you can make good use of the opportunity," he wrote.

The respondent replied she is not the kind of person he is looking for and plans to terminate her internship, leading readers to speculate the person on the other end of the conversation is an intern at the company.

In another Weibo post shared last Friday night, Cao shared what he described as an internal memo to employees at Sands China on the day, regarding Huang Jie.

“We are aware of the messages that have been circulating online regarding Huang Jie. The department is assisting authorities to investigate the case, Huang Jie is currently suspended from work as he co-operates with authorities on the investigation,” the message reads.

In the latest update on the case, Cao posted on Monday on his Weibo account that Huang Jie has been fired by Sands China. He also shared another internal message sent by the company's human resources department to staff members. The message reminds employees to comply with company policies.

Human Resources has reached out to Sands China for comment.
