閱讀中文版本

In light of the severity of the ongoing coronavirus epidemic, Google announced on Wednesday the temporary shut down of offices in Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China, according to tech website The Verge.

Employees are provided the 'work from home' option or have been asked to extend their lunar new year holidays.

A Google spokesperson says the company plans to keep its offices closed in accordance with the Chinese government guidance, and it has also halted employees flying to mainland China and Hong Kong.

The company also urges employees currently in mainland China, and employees who have immediate family members returning from the country, return home as soon as possible and to work from home for at least 14 days from their departure date.

Google has four offices in mainland China.

Apart from the tech giant, global companies such as Starbucks, Facebook and Amazon have introduced business travel restrictions to mainland China.
