Huawei’s latest HR hiring direction

閱讀中文版本

Earlier this week, in the midst of lay-off rumours, Huawei Technologies’ internal staff have revealed the company’s upcoming hiring direction.

According to the internal memo, Huawei is suspending the ongoing internal recruitment plans except for certain positions. The company will put its hiring focus on university fresh graduates and is inclined to recruit more new blood with overseas university backgrounds. Offer letters were resent to the graduates who did not accept them in the first place.

External recruitment will not be completely abolished. Only candidates with 12 to 15 years of outstanding experience in areas of IT, public cloud, AI, data governance, video surveillance, and more, will be considered. Areas where Huawei has already excelled at will not release any job openings.

According to Huawei staff, this is the company’s retaliation towards last year’s financial report. In 2017, the annual sales income was 603.6 billion yuan, but the net profit was only 47.5 billion yuan. Many suspect it was due to its high labour costs.

The average annual salary among Huawei’s 180,000 global employees was 779,400 yuan, according to the company’s annual report released last year. The majority of the company assets are mid-level employees who are not good enough to get promoted, but yet to be fired.

Responding to Chinese reports on Wednesday that said it had shut the door completely to experienced talent outside the company, Huawei declined to comment on the internal memo and released an official statement below.

“Employees are valuable assets of Huawei. In the past 30 years, Huawei has grown into a global company with 180,000 employees serving clients from more than 170 countries and regions. We will continue to open up and attract talent from all over the world, and promote business development under the new vision of the company.”
