Malaysia's HR ministry to facilitate more T&D for TVET graduates: Kulasegaran

Malaysia's Human Resources Ministry will set up Institutes of Management (IIMB) at all training institutions under the manpower department, in efforts to upgrade training and talent development, Berita Harian reported.

According to Human Resources Minister M. Kulasegaran, the IIMB will have nine members made up of Human Resources Development Fund-registered (HRDF) employers, trade unions, manpower department representatives and employers' associations.

Speaking at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Manpower Department and HRDF last week, he said: "I hope the establishment of this IIMB will be an effective initiative to ensure the training facilities, curriculum and teaching skills of each institution are relevant to the industry's needs.

Kulasegaran added that the quality of graduates of technical and vocational education (TVET) is an important aspect in generating human resources, and as such, the country needs to ensure the gap between the skills possessed by TVET graduates and the skills required by the industry is in tandem with the production of skilled manpower to meet industry requirements.

He said: "TVET institutions must move toward an industry-driven training programme, therefore industry and institutions should work together to develop courses and programs that meet the requirements of the local industry.

"In this way, it will encourage the youth to venture into the field of TVET."

The three institutions selected for the pilot project include the Shah Alam High Tech Training Centre (ADTEC), Kuala Lumpur Industrial Training Institute, and the Japan-Malaysia Technical Institute.

According to Berita Harian, First Solar Malaysia will enrol 500 employees in ADTEC in Kulim, with prior achievement certification, with funding by HRDF for eligible employees.
