MEF urges employers to educate employees on COVID-19 vaccine

The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) recently released a statement urging employers to educate and encourage their employees on the benefits to be inoculated against COVID-19.

MEF President Dato’ Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman J.P. highlighted that employers have an important role to assist the government to ensure the success of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme so as to boost up confidence towards speedy economic recovery.

He said: "As responsible employers, we should brief our staff on the benefits of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme and we can count on getting support from the Ministry of Health if so required."

While expressing gratitude to the government for promptly securing vaccines, Dato’ Dr Syed Hussain noted the key to success is in the execution of the plan whereby more than 80% of people residing in Malaysia are required to be vaccinated to establish ‘herd immunity’ in order for Malaysia to win the fight against COVID-19.

He added: "MEF strongly advises all workers especially those who are provided with accommodation in hostels to be inoculated against COVID-19 and we are confident that employers will carry out the vaccination of workers as required by the government."

To access the application form and register for inoculation of the vaccine, Android and iOS users need to update their MySejahtera app.

It is understood that users of the Android and iOS smart telephones are required to update their MySejahtera app to access the application form and to register for inoculation of the vaccine.

Other than the MySejahtera app, registration for COVID-19 vaccination could be done via the soon to be established COVID-19 JKJAV website, or the hotline phone number that the government will soon announce.

On the same topic of vaccination, in a Facebook post, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob assured that the public does not need to worry about the effectiveness of the vaccine as it has already passed numerous clinical trials and study processes not just outside even in the country.

"With this vaccine, it will make a big impact on government efforts to control COVID-19. infection," he added.
