Up the ranks: Betty Lau is Unilever's global learning director, leadership & business skills

Betty Lau is Unilever's global learning director, leadership & business skills as of January 2017. Lau joined the company in 2013 as global learning director. In the expanded role she is responsible for leading leadership and business skills, in addition to her existing work on learning analytics, and coaching and mentoring.

She oversees the management and overall P&L responsibilities of Four Acres Singapore, Unilever's only leadership development centre outside of the UK. Opened in June 2013, the facility can accommodate a maximum of 450 participants and has 55 bedrooms on-site.

Lau is currently working on the development of a persona-based curriculum blending both business and leadership skills, as well as action based learning for Unilever's top leadership team.

Her main priority for the year is leveraging on technology to curate learning experiences. When asked about the one challenge that keeps her up at night, she told Human Resources: "How to compete in the age of artificial intelligence and machine learning."

Lau has nearly twenty years of experience in the industry and has previously worked in Switzerland and China. She continues to be based in Singapore and reports directly to Tim Munden, Unilever's chief learning officer.
