4,716 youth in Malaysia found employment through the Sabah Job Centre

Through the Sabah Job Centre, the Resource Development and Information Technology Ministry has implemented several programmes which have focused on helping unemployed youth get jobs - as reported in The Borneo Post.

As assistant minister Datuk Hamisa Samat elaborated some of such examples, they included getting employers and job seekers registered with the job portal, along with strengthening human capital, mindset transformation camps and encouraging the use of event space Wisma Bandaraya as the interview venue for employers registered with the job portal.

She also commented that 24,697 job seekers have found employment through the job portal as of today where 1,865 employers had registered. As for strengthening human capital, Hamisa said that a total of 4,716 youngsters have secured jobs in the private sector through the programme.

Meanwhile, Kapayan assemblyman Dr Edwin Bosi suggested for the state government to help out unemployed youth by giving them free driving licence and loans to purchase cars so that they could become Uber drivers and earn an income.

Supporting the idea, youth and sport minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan agreed that it was a good suggestion and it would be given consideration. Datuk Tawfiq also said that the unemployment rate last year increased to 5% and this could be caused by the closing down of a few oil and gas companies affected by the low oil price.
