Indonesia's total labour force experienced a y-o-y growth of 2.76mn people in February 2024

The labour force participation rate also grew by 0.5 percentage points y-o-y.

Indonesia recorded a total of 149.38mn people in the labour force in February 2024 — an increase of 2.76mn from February 2023. In tandem, the labour force participation rate grew by 0.5 percentage points y-o-y.

Per the National Labour Force Survey, the number of employed people in February 2024 also rose by 3.55mn people compared to February 2023 (142.18mn). By industry, accommodation & food service activities experienced the largest growth in the number of workers (0.96mn people).

As many as 58.05mn people in February 2024 were engaged in formal activities, equivalent to 40.83%. This follows an increase of 0.95p.p compared to February 2023.

Looking at underemployment — the rate of people who were underemployed also increased by 1.61p.p in February 2024, while voluntary part-time employment rate decreased by 0.73p.p compared to the previous year.

As a whole, the number workers who commuted to work in February 2024 was recorded at 7.13mn people, experiencing a y-o-y decline of approximately 0.05mn people.

Lastly, the unemployment rate in February 2024 stood at 4.82%, a decrease by 0.63p.p from February 2023.
