Nominations open for inaugural tripartite alliance award

A new award that recognises outstanding employers who have put in place fair, responsible and progressive employment practices has been launched today.

The Tripartite Alliance Award (TA Award), conferred by the tripartite partners - the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), and the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF), is an extension of the tripartite partners’ effort in strengthening and championing exemplary employment practices.

Administered by the Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP), this award will be given out in four categories namely, Fair and Progressive Employment Practices; Work-Life Excellence; Age Inclusive Practices; and Responsible Best Sourcing. Apart from these categories, it will also recognise individual champions in two special Mention categories – the Leadership Award and the Workplace Advocate Award.

"Progressive employers build inclusive workplaces that tap on the potential of all employees. The Tripartite Alliance Award acknowledges employers who are committed to grow their businesses by valuing every employee. We want to recognise and celebrate these employers and help them share their experiences with others," said Lim Swee Say, Minister for Manpower.

The unions and associations have echoed positive sentiments on the benefits it would bring to employers and employees.

"Employers with progressive employment practices have more motivated, happier and productive employees and these contribute to the sustainable growth of their business. It is important to showcase such employers so that more will be inspired to do so too," said Robert Yap, president of SNEF.

Mary Liew, president of NTUC, added, "Working people of today have different needs and priorities, and place equal emphasis on both career and personal aspirations. They view companies with fair, progressive employment and workplace practices as a crucial factor to help them realise their fullest potential. As such, it is important for employers to be inclusive and support them in both work and life aspects, while continuing to nurture them in their careers. This is even more critical as our country progresses towards a future economy."

The nominations for the award are now open till 16 March 2018.The employees or unions may nominate the employers, with the exception for the category "Responsible Best Sourcing", where the nomination may come from service providers, or outsourced employees working with them.

This will be open to all Singapore-based organisations and nominated organisations must be a signatory of TAFEP Employers' Pledge of Fair Employment Practices, and the Tripartite Standards.
