NUS adopts five-day work-from-office policy for all full-time staff

The policy took effect on 1 October, marking a shift from its previous hybrid work model.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) has rolled out a five-day work-from-office policy for all full-time staff members, the university confirmed on Thursday (2 October).

An NUS spokesperson told Human Resources Online that the university recognises the value of in-person interactions in the workplace. Based on data from Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower, close to 70% of companies in Singapore did not offer scheduled teleworking arrangements in 2023.

From 1 September 2025, staff from NUS’ central administration units resumed working on campus five days a week, the spokesperson said. The arrangement was subsequently extended to the rest of the university from 1 October 2025.

The spokesperson added: “NUS still offers flexible work arrangements, which can be designed for specific job roles.”

CNA reported that NUS had previously operated under a four-day work-from-office, one-day work-from-home policy introduced in late 2023.

CNA first learned about the policy from sources familiar with the matter. One NUS staff member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said some departments were informed in mid-August that staff would need to return to the office daily from 1 September. The requirement was later extended to all remaining staff, including faculty members, from 1 October.
