AirAsia launches exclusively-designed hijab for women pilots

Malaysia-based aviation major AirAsia has inked a special collaboration with hijab brand Naelofar Hijab to create an exclusively designed hijab for the airline’s female pilots.

Beginning June 2017, Muslim pilots from AirAsia and AirAsia X can don the white hijab that, according to the airline, is "specifically tailored to meet their workday needs".

Women pilots from AirAsia were reportedly involved in the design process to create a functional, yet comfortable headscarf suitable for their day-to-day operations. Before being rolled out, multiple wear testing was carried out on prototypes by the airline’s pilots.

AirAsia said in a statement: "Using fabric materials with enhancement properties, the new hijab allows great stretch and recovery for easy movement along with adornment of the signature Naelofar Hijab symbol in Swarovski crystals for a finishing touch."

Highlighting this is AirAsia's first time in collaborating with a designer for hijabs for pilots, Rudy Khaw, regional head of branding added that the airline is currently looking into revamping hijab designs for ground staff as well.

Neelofa, founder of Naelofar Hijab, added: "Being given the opportunity to redesign the female hijab was very exciting and it gave us the opportunity to create a special piece that is comfortable, functional and stylish."
