Current Manpower Minister Josephine Teo has been appointed as Minister for Communications and Information. She will relinquish her appointment as Minister for Manpower, however, will continue being the Second Minister for Home Affairs.
Taking over Teo's role as Minister for Manpower is veteran medical practitioner and entrepreneur, Dr Tan See Leng.
Dr Tan made his entrance into politics last year, after stepping down from his role as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IHH Healthcare in December 2019. The 56-year old, who is married with three children, is a family physician by training, with more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare sector.
Another change to the Ministry of Manpower is the appointment of Dr Koh Poh Koon as Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Manpower, joining the current Senior Minister of State for Manpower, Zaqy Mohamad. Dr Koh will also continue his role as the Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Health.
Other Cabinet movements include:
- Gan Kim Yong appointed as Minister for Trade and Industry, relinquishing his role as Minister for Health.
- S Iswaran appointed as Minister for Transport, relinquishing his appointment as Minister for Communications and Information, but continuing as Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations in the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
- Chan Chun Sing appointed as Minister for Education, relinquishing his role as Minister for Trade and Industry.
- Lawrence Wong appointed as Minister for Finance, relinquishing his appointment as Minister for Education.
- Ong Ye Kung appointed as Minister for Health, relinquishing his role as Minister for Transport.
While other political appointments announced were:
- Sim Ann appointed as Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relinquishing her role as Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Communications and Information, but continuing as Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of National Development.
- Chee Hong Tat continuing as the Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport but relinquishing his appointment as Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Dr Koh Poh Koon appointed as Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Manpower and continuing as the Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Health.
- Tan Kiat How appointed as Minister of State in the Ministry of Communications and Information, relinquishing his appointment as Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, but continuing as Minister of State in the Ministry of National Development.
- Rahayu Mahzam will be appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Information and continue as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health.
Further, additional responsibilities were announced for the following:
- Josephine Teo has also been appointed as the Minister-in-charge of the Smart Nation Initiative, taking over from Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, and Minister-in-charge of the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore, taking over from Mr S Iswaran.
- Edwin Tong has been appointed Deputy Chairman of the People’s Association, taking over from Mr Chan Chun Sing.
- The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) has accepted the proposal for Chee Hong Tat to join the NTUC, as Dr Koh Poh Koon will be returning to the Government full-time.
