Driving for better informed MPF decisions

On 27 April 2017, Gain Miles is organising its 6th annual MPF Forum in Hong Kong. Themed Driving for better informed decisions, the invitation-only event provides an opportunity for human resources professionals and corporate decision makers to come together and learn about the importance of making the right choice for their MPF schemes, while helping their employees to maximise their retirement protection.

Gain Miles prides itself on providing research based advice to clients, thanks to the extensive market research and surveys that the company has been conducting. “We collaborate with a number of renowned academic institutions and produce research reports that help provide a better understanding of the needs and challenges faced by employers and employees,” says Dr. Gloria Siu, chief executive of Gain Miles Group.

One of these reports is the biannual Employee Insurance Benefits research report the company has published since 2003, which provides employers with valuable insights into market trends and development. In the latest report, the pension costs borne by employers were found to be 110% higher than a decade before, presenting the industry with some serious food for thought.

On the other hand from employee level, Gain Miles has been conducting the MPF Confidence Index Survey since 2012, which helps employers to better understand the needs of their employees, through examining their behaviour, expectations, knowledge, and level of confidence in MPF as retirement protection.

It is clear from our study that employees’ knowledge on MPF is insufficient and their expectation from employers to help them on MPF management has never been higher. It is important for employers to look at their existing pension scheme regularly and continue to add value through different arrangements in order to satisfy the varying employee needs.

Gain Miles assists employers with tailored help reviewing existing scheme features, as well as the investment preferences and asset profiles of employees. “We map employer challenges and employee needs, and present those together with our advice on pension strategy and provider options. It’s our goal to provide all the information and analysis needed to help employers select the best pension platform,” Siu explains.

To better support the company’s efforts on member education, a personalised MPF servicing team was set up in 2013, responsible for MPF investment and risk management education. Through member briefing sessions and one-on-one helpdesk service, we do not only help enhance members’ understanding of MPF fees, fund choices and fund performance, but also help individual members with their personal MPF issues, with very positive feedback received.

At the MPF helpdesk, members are encouraged to take the MPF Risk Profiling Questionnaire to assess their risk tolerance level and return expectation prior to making any investment decisions. With all related necessary information provided together with the risk tolerance level result, Gain Miles helps members to make the best informed decisions on MPF.

Delegates of 2017 MPF Forum will hear from a range of expert speakers from AIA MPF, BCT Group, Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA), Manulife (International) Limited, Sun Life Asset Management (HK) Limited, and of course Gain Miles Group, who will share their insights, experiences, and advice on MPF development and tips to arrive at better informed decisions.

Rooted in Hong Kong since 1980, Gain Miles is a leader in the health and wealth industry, providing a comprehensive range of consultancy services including pension, employee benefits, corporate risk management and individual financial planning. The company serves a large number of multinational and local firms, as well as their employees, across all sectors.
