MDEC enhances Digital Skills Training Directory with more courses to equip Malaysians with in-demand skills

Participants can choose from approximately 250 courses that focus on areas such as data science, cybersecurity, animation, game development, and more, with selected courses to be partly funded by SOCSO.

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has updated its Digital Skills Training Directory, a programme that guides talents to meet career needs for jobs in the digital economy, with about 250 courses across focus areas such as data science, cybersecurity, and animation which are dubbed as in-demand skills by the World Economic Forum.

These courses will be guided by nine partners, namely: the Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CFTE), OpenLearning Global, LinkedIn Learning, EC-Council CodeRed, Leaderonomics Digital, 360DigiTMG (AiSPRY), Akademi GA, SAS Institute, and LTT Global Communications.

In detail, the courses in the Digital Skills Training Directory cover these focus areas:

• Data science (56 courses)
• Cybersecurity (44)
• Animation (19)
• Game Development (5)
• Software Development (56)
• Digital Global Business Services (77)

The Directory has been recognised by the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO), and will fund up to RM4,000 per person for selected courses pursued by Employment Insurance Scheme (EIS) members who are receiving unemployment benefits.

Additionally, MDEC revealed, selected courses offering certification are also eligible for coverage of up to RM7,000 under the PENJANA 2.0 Hiring Incentive (a maximum of RM4,000 for the apprentice category).

“There has never been [a] more urgent need for companies to reskill and upskill their employees. This doesn’t just concern large companies – a 2019 SME report from Huawei Malaysia revealed that 48% of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) recognise they lack digital skills,” said Dr Sumitra Nair, VP and Head of Digital Skills and Jobs, MDEC.

“While there are increasingly large numbers of training and reskilling resources that companies can tap into, finding the right course or online training provider can prove challenging. The Digital Skills Training Directory, launched by MDEC, helps companies to more easily discover training courses that meet their reskilling and upskilling needs.”
