AirHelp’s biannual study has unveiled the most punctual airlines in the world. Hong Kong Airlines was crowned the winner with 83.57% of its planes arriving and departing on schedule.
Overall, Asian and American airlines were the most reliable carriers in terms of their punctuality. Apart from Hong Kong Airlines, Singapore Airlines (67.04%, third in the rankings), Japan Airlines (66.75%) and All Nippon Airways (66.14%) were also in the top 10.
Flag airline Kenya Airways came second in the rankings. Among all US carriers, Delta Airlines snatched top spot (67%) from its US competitors, which were Alaska Airlines (65.96%), Spirit Airlines (64.28%) and United Airlines (64.27%).
No European airline was in the top 10. Iberia was in 11th place. Nordic carriers such as Finnair, SAS and Norwegian ran on time for less than half of their flights. Fortunately, passengers who took a long-haul flight with an EU carrier were entitled to up to US$700 per person for a delay of three hours or more to their final destination.
