In an era where working from anywhere has become a norm, Melbourne, Victoria in Australia has emerged as the most attractive city for remote workers, Nestpick's latest Work-from-anywhere Index has revealed. Coming close behind in second place was Dubai, UAE; followed by Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in third place.
Among Asia Pacific cities, Singapore ranked seventh, followed by Hong Kong in 14th place; Chiang Mai, Thailand in 34th place; Bangkok, Thailand in 38th; and Shanghai, China in 73rd place.
In determining the ranking, the Index used data to uncover the global cities with the best legislation, infrastructure, and liveability in place to relocate to and work remotely from. A total of 75 cities were analysed, according to 16 diverse factors to create a final ranking based on a total score - these included accommodation availability, remote worker immigration, safety, freedom & rights, COVID-19 vaccination rate, and more (full 16 factors are shared below).
Based on the findings, Melbourne had attained the following among others:
- The presence of a digital nomad visa
- A score of 91.8/100 for its remote working infrastructure
- A score of 98/100
- A score of 99.78/100 for gender equality and 97.78 for minority equality
- A score of 97.74/100 for healthcare
- 11.51% COVID-19 vaccination rate
