4 things to note if you want to travel under Malaysia's Langkawi Travel Bubble (LTB)

The following guidelines cover pre-arrival, arrival, stay, and departure procedures that travellers have to undergo before continuing with their travel plans for the Langkawi Travel Bubble (LTB).

The Immigration Department of Malaysia (Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia), on 10 December (Friday), released a list of travel guidelines—from pre-arrival procedures, to arrival, stay, and departure—for travellers who are involved in the Langkawi Travel Bubble (LTB).

These latest LTB guidelines are more in-depth, as compared to the previously announced one by Malaysia's Minister for Health, Khairy Jamaluddin, which mainly covered COVID-19 testing requirements.

The SOPs for using the Langkawi Travel Bubble are as follows below:

#2 On-arrival

Testing

  • For travellers transiting, they are to undergo RT-PCR testing at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 1 (KLIA 1), and abide by a five- to six-hour transit period before connecting to a domestic flight to Langkawi.
  • For travellers arriving directly at Langkawi, they are to undergo RT-PCR testing at Langkawi International Airport (LIA).

Only travellers who have a negative test result can continue with the Langkawi Travel Bubble.

#3 Stay

For three-to-seven day long stay

  • Travellers are required to remain in Langkawi, Malaysia.
  • Travellers must undergo a professional RTK-antigen (RTK-Ag) testing on day three and day five of stay.
  • Travellers must administer self rapid antigen (RT-Ag) testing on day two, day four, and day six of stay, and self report the test results via the MySejahtera app.

For more than seven days' long stay (that also involves leaving Langkawi)

  • Travellers must undergo a professional RTK-antigen (RTK-Ag) testing on day three and day five of stay.
  • Travellers must administer self rapid antigen (RT-Ag) testing on day two, day four, and day six of stay, and self report the test results via the MySejahtera app.
  • Travellers must undergo RT-PCR testing two days before departing Langkawi, Malaysia.
