KONE intends to add new green roles in Singapore such as strategic designers by 2026

The ambition is to expand innovation capacity in areas such as construction acceleration, and repurposing and renovating buildings.

KONE has announced an expanded innovation programme to support the green built environment sector in Singapore. This has included an additional focus on continuing to invest in, build. and nurture an agile local talent base, as shared in a press release.

This strategic move, in collaboration with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), is expected to comprise the following initiatives:

  • The innovation programme strives to develop new products, prioritised with environmental sustainability in mind, to stay ahead of the emerging trends in the local built environment.
  • By 2026, KONE intends to add new roles in Singapore such as strategic designers, while building wider innovation capacity and capability. This includes a focus on construction acceleration; and repurposing and renovating buildings.

While the projects will be led, designed and trialled in Singapore, KONE has said it will keep an eye out across the Asia Pacific region to scale up their impact for the market — both independently and with like-minded partners.

Crediting Singapore as having a "global reputation for its vibrant ecosystem", Amy Chen, Senior Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer, KONE, expressed excitement on the enhancement of innovation capabilities in the Asia Pacific region.

She added that the expanded programme opens up new opportunities for co-innovation, allowing KONE to explore novel technologies to address significant challenges in the built environment sector.

Welcome KONE’s decision to expand its innovation activities in Singapore, in areas such as AI, climate technology and industrial internet of things (IIoT), Lim Tse Yong, Senior Vice President and Head, Mobility and Industrial Solutions, EDB, said it was a good example of how leading industry players can leverage Singapore’s ecosystem to develop and scale sustainability solutions for the region.
