Malaysia and Indonesia to cooperate in higher education field to strengthen TVET programmes

Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi cited the collaboration as a strategic leap towards the development of highly skilled human capital that is ready for global economic challenges.

The University of Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), the Provincial Government of Jakarta and the Provincial government of West Sumatra have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to strengthen their education cooperation, as of 21 April 2025 (Monday).

The first collaboration between UniKL and the Provincial Government of Jakarta will focus on the development of Technical and Vocational and Training (TVET) through the implementation of various programs such as joint research, student mobility, credit transfer, and strengthening of industry relationships that will grant opportunities for the achievement of more inclusive and international education.

Meanwhile, the partnership between UniKL and the government of West Sumatra showcases the implementation of the Ulul Albab Huffaz TVET Minangkabau programme, which combines Islamic education, technical skills, and Minangkabau cultural values to produce a generation of holistic and competitive huffaz professionals globally.

At the same time, the LOI between Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) and the Provincial Government of West Sumatra (PGWS) was also sealed to strengthen cooperation in the higher education field between Malayia and Indonesia.

EMGS will facilitate the PWGS through sponsored student visa application processes and match students with Malaysian higher education that are most suitable according to their interests and needs. There will also be emphasis given to the implementation of organised procedures, student-friendly and continuing joint responsibility between EMGS and PGWS.

In a Facebook post, Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi said that the ceremony of exchange is not just a symbol of two-way commitment in education, but a strategic leap towards the development of highly skilled human capital that is ready for global economic challenges.

"Malaysia and Indonesia, as two countries united and one soul, continue hand in hand to build a brighter and progressive future for generations to come," he added.
