Malaysia's joint committee on the management of foreign workers discusses labour policies

While new proposals such as a recruitment policy and employment policy were introduced, the perspectives will be reported to the cabinet for proper reconsideration.

On 27 June 2023 (Tuesday), the 8th Committee Meeting on the Management of Foreign Workers, Bill 2/2023, co-chaired by Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Minister of Human Resources V. Sivakumar, was attended by ministers, deputy ministers, and senior officials of the ministries involved.

Among a few new proposals presented at the meeting, were a national policy, recruitment policy, employment policy, repatriation policy, stateless people & refugees, right to justice, and reports by the independent committee on the matters. Members also came up with various suggestions and new ideas in discussions.

In a Facebook post, Minister Saifuddin shared that the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) and Ministry of Human Resources (KSM) are in the midst of preparing a complete report to re-present to the cabinet for proper consideration.

In a separate Facebook post, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Liew Chin Tong, who was present at the meeting, affirmed: "We need to create a suitable and beneficial ecosystem for Malaysian workers, and at the same time, reduce our dependence on foreign labour."
