Starting next week, NTUC and e2i will be on-site at Changi Airport Terminal 1 to provide direct support, including career coaching, skills upgrading, and employability assistance to the affected employees, SG Ng Chee Meng said.
With the recent news of Jetstar Asia's closure effective 31 July 2025, the National Trade Unions Congress (NTUC) has announced that it will work together with the Singapore Manual & Mercantile Workers’ Union (The SMMWU) to support the workers affected by the closure.
In a Facebook post, NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng shared that NTUC and the SMMWU were informed of the exercise prior to the closure announcement, and that the SMMWU has been working closely with the airline to provide retrenchment benefits that are in line with the Tripartite Advisory on Managing Excess Manpower and Responsible Retrenchment.
"NTUC, together with The SMMWU, is working to help these workers find their footing again with job placement and career advisory support, particularly within the aviation and aerospace sectors," he said.
SG Ng added that starting next week, NTUC Singapore and NTUC’s Employment & Employability Institute, e2i will be on-site at Changi Airport Terminal 1 to provide direct support, including career coaching, skills upgrading, and employability assistance.
"NTUC is also working with our partners to support these workers. We are exploring opportunities for Singapore Airlines Group, a unionised company, to match affected Jetstar Asia employees, including crew and corporate staff, to suitable roles where possible. The NTUC Aerospace and Aviation Cluster will work with Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and Changi Airport Group to identify opportunities for the affected employees as well."
"Our focus remains on doing all we can to help workers land on their feet and move forward with confidence. Transitions are never easy, but our workers will not go through this alone."
