Putrajaya Sihat Sejahtera Strategic Plan aims to encourage good health among civil servants in Malaysia

It will be executed through policies that foster a supportive environment, while also enhancing health literacy and improving lifestyle practices in the workplace.

Malaysia has launched the Putrajaya Healthy Prosperous Strategic Plan (PSS) to encourage good health among civil servants, aiming to drive higher productivity, as part of its National Health Agenda (ANMS).

Announced by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on 24 Septemner, the Plan outlines various strategies, initiatives, and targets that need to be achieved by 2030, and aims to reduce the prevalence of health risk factors among civil servants in Putrajaya. It will be executed through policies that promote a culture of healthy living and foster a supportive environment, while also enhancing health literacy and improving lifestyle practices in the workplace.

The strategies are as follows:

  • Strengthen the health literacy of civil servants and foster a supportive health environment;
  • Enhance health interventions to promote a healthy lifestyle;
  • Advance environmental sustainability initiatives that support health and wellbeing;
  • Empower strategic partners through recognition, fostering a sense of ownership in health and wellbeing, and
  • Expand the Wellness on Wheels (WOW) service by mobilising 19 vehicles for Members of Parliament, commencing in 2025.

Additionally, several successful initiatives of the PSS healthy living culture have been introduced, focusing on promoting an active lifestyle, encouraging healthier eating practices, ensuring safe eating, facilitating health screenings, and more.

The PSS initiative will be implemented in a pilot phase from 2024 to 2025, with a baseline survey conducted in 2024 and another survey at the end of 2025 to assess the effectiveness of the pilot.

As part of this initiative, 16 key programmes have been introduced, focusing on promoting an active lifestyle, healthier eating habits, safe food practices, and regular health screenings, among other aspects of healthy living.

The success of the PSS will be evaluated through several studies and surveys, including:

  • Malaysia Health Literacy Survey 2028
  • Malaysia Healthy Lifestyle Index 2028
  • National Health and Morbidity Survey 2028
  • PSS 2030 Post-Effectiveness Study

The achievement of PSS goals will rely on the empowerment of civil servants and the commitment of strategic partners within the ANMS, engaging all ministries, departments, and agencies, DPM Ahmad Zahid said.

Health and wellbeing issues must be addressed across sectors, ensuring the integration of the "Health in All Policies" approach in all governmental policies, he further highlighted.
