Starting 10 June 2021, Malaysia’s MOF will distribute RM1.5bn across 1mn micro-SMEs through GKP 3.0

Over the course of GKP 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0, a total of RM5.08bn has been channelled to approximately 1mn micro-SMEs.

In Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance (MOF) (9 June) latest update, some 1mn micro-SMEs (PKS Mikro Disalurkan) have passed application processes for special caring grants (Geran Khas Prihatin, or GKP) 3.0. This means that, under GKP 3.0, approved micro-SMEs will receive a total of RM1,500 in payouts.

Starting from 10 June 2021 (Thursday), approved micro-SMEs will first receive RM1,000. An additional payment of RM500 will then be distributed in July 2021.

This takes the total amount of payouts under GKP 3.0 up to RM1.5bn.

Previously, on 17 March 2021, under PEMERKASA, the Malaysian government announced that it will provide GKP 3.0 of RM1,000 to more than 1mn micro-SMEs to ensure the viability of their business, especially in managing cash flow.

Separately, on 31 May 2021, under PEMERKASA+, the government announced a similar commitment during the period of the Movement Control Order (PKP) 3.0, where an additional payout of RM500 will be made, increasing the total payment to RM1,500 for each micro-SMEs.

Minister of Finance, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, said: “The Government hopes that the direct assistance channelled to these micro-SMEs will ease their burden, especially those who are particularly affected by the implementation of PKP 3.0 this time.”

Since COVID-19 struck the nation, a total of RM5.08bn has been, and will be, channelled to approximately 1mn micro-SMEs under the GKPs.
