The top 3 things employees miss when travelling for work

True to their foodie roots, Singaporean and Malaysian business travellers say home cooked meals are among the top things they miss most when on the road.

For both nationalities, home cooked meals came in third on the list (25%), behind their home (38%) and family (68%), according to a new survey by Regus.

The survey also found 17% of Singaporean and Malaysian respondents miss being able to speak their own language when abroad.

Singaporean business travellers (42%) are also more likely to get homesick when compared with their global counterparts (38%). This figure was slightly higher for Malaysians, at 44%.

Singaporean and Malaysian business executives are also now about 20% less willing to leave home comforts behind for business compared to a decade ago.

This could be a result of advancements in technology, which is now making it easier for business professionals to communicate with regional and global peers without having to travel.

"New technologies that allow workers to hold video conferences are becoming more and more common and employees are rightly starting to demand that these be offered as an alternative to travel," Paul MacAndrew, country manager at Regus Singapore, said.

"By introducing a greater degree of video conferencing, businesses can have their cake and eat it too: they can save money and the environment, as well as helping increase employee satisfaction and improve their work-life balance."
