Vietnam's Phú Quốc island to welcome vaccinated tourists from 20 November 2021

Tourists may enter on chartered flights to designated hotels which will be opened up in stages. To date, tourists from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and more are allowed to enter Vietnam with recognised COVID-19 vaccination certificates.

The Vietnam government has announced that beginning 20 November 2021 (Saturday), foreigners with vaccine passports may visit Phú Quốc island in the southern province of Kien Giang, as part of a pilot programme by the local People’s Committee.

In an article on 22 October 2021 (Friday), the government noted that in particular, the island will be welcoming tourists on chartered flights to designated hotels which will be opened up in stages:

From 20 November 2021 to 20 March 2022, foreign tourists are welcomed at the following seven designated hotels:

  1. Vinpearl Discovery Costalland
  2. Vinpearl Discovery Greenhill
  3. Vinpearl Resort Spa
  4. Vinholidays Fiesta
  5. Premier Residences Emerald Bay
  6. Movenpick Resort Waverly
  7. Movenpick Villa and Residences

In the next stage, from 20 Mar 2022 to 20 Jun 2022, eight more hotels will subsequently be opened:  

  1. Best Western Premier Sonasea
  2. Novotel Resort
  3. Intercontinental
  4. Sol By Melia
  5. Crowne Plaza Starbay
  6. Shell Resort & Spa
  7. Pullman Resort
  8. Mercury Resort & Villa

Foreigners will be required to have:

  • full vaccination certificates, with the second dose taken at least 14 days and no more than 12 months before arriving in Phú Quốc,
  • or a proof of recovery from COVID-19 recognised by Vietnamese authorities, and a negative COVID-19 test certificate issued within 72 hours before departure.

In a bid to revive tourism after the Government shifted away from its “Zero COVID-19” policy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has discussed with nearly 80 partners about mutual recognition of vaccination certificates or vaccine passports, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lê Thị Thu Hằng said on Thursday.

To date, Vietnam has temporarily recognised COVID-19 vaccination certificates or vaccine passports from the following 73 countries and territories (accurate as at 26 October 2021):

  3. The Republic of Korea
  4. Kazakhstan
  5. Mongolia
  6. Oman
  7. Thailand
  8. Romania
  9. Japan
  10. New Zealand
  11. Brazil
  12. Sri Lanka
  13. The Czech Republic
  14. Morocco
  15. Saudi Arabia
  16. Armenia
  17. Germany
  18. Russia
  19. The UK
  20. Austria
  21. San Marino
  22. Laos
  23. Singapore
  24. Belgium
  25. Spain
  26. Denmark
  27. The US
  28. Italy
