Following the wins, 

HR Director Jureeporn Pirom shares with how the company supports and develops its employees through the key pillars it thrives on — Leadership, betterment, and performance.

Q: How would you describe the pillars of your employee experience strategy, and what are the principles you have taken into account to develop this?

adidas takes prides in its people strategy, built on three key pillars: Leadership, betterment and performance, all underpinned by diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Leadership: We develop leaders to lead by example, empowering everyone to reach their full potential.

Betterment: We embrace a culture of ongoing learning and growth, providing opportunities to upskill and adapt for the future.

Performance: We assemble winning teams and celebrate success, acknowledging and rewarding both individual and team achievements.

We believe that the success of our company hinges on our people. Hence, we strive to deepen the integration of DEI into our culture, to attract, develop, and retain employees, empower leadership, create a superior employee experience from hire to retire, foster employee wellbeing, promote continuous learning, and recognise both individual and team performance. By creating a level playing field for everyone, each has an equal opportunity to achieve betterment, maximise leadership potential, and unleash high performance.

Q: In a world propelled by rapid change, what measures do you have in place to maintain a people- centric, human approach to your EX as it evolves?

Q: What initiatives do you undertake such that the delivery of employee experience is a collective responsibility of all stakeholders in the organisation?

At adidas, ensuring collective responsibility for employee experience is a multi-faceted effort. From the moment an employee joins adidas, the Senior Leadership Team plays a crucial role in delivering a superior experience by facilitating functional onboarding – helping new hires grasps the intricacies of the business and ensuring continuous improvement of compensation and benefits. Open communication and feedback are promoted across all levels, enabling employees to express their views and suggestions for enhancement.

Our "Shop Floor Experience" programme promotes cross-functional learning, fostering diverse perspectives. Talent development is prioritised through programmes like the Manager Development Experience training and talent round table discussions. These efforts engage all stakeholders in delivering a positive employee experience. At adidas, we believe that everyone—from leaders to individual contributors—plays a vital role in shaping the employee experience, creating an environment where each person feels motivated and empowered.

Q: Do you have words of wisdom to share with others in the industry on the best ways to keep your employee experience consistent and beautiful?

Everything we do is rooted in sport, we firmly believe that ‘Through sports we have the power to change lives’ and it is our employees who bring this belief to life each day. Sport's significance is growing in people's lives, both within and beyond competitive arenas. It is a cornerstone of every culture and society, fundamental to our well-being and joy. Our daily efforts are dedicated to inspiring and empowering individuals to embrace sport's transformative influence.

We strive to cultivate an environment brimming with inspiration and creative vitality. Just as sports teams prioritise teamwork and camaraderie, organisations can enhance their employee experience by valuing collaboration, open communication, and recognition of individual contributions.

Providing opportunities for skill development and personal wellbeing boosts morale and fosters loyalty and engagement. Prioritising employees’ holistic development creates a workplace that is consistent and beautiful and also transformative, where we thrive for a winning culture.

Q: Finally, what is the positive impact of employee experience that you’ve seen on the business as well as the workforce?

adidas witnessed powerful impacts of employee experience on both our workforce and our business. The stellar people-centered culture being experienced by our people bring forth a sense of pride, belongingness, and loyalty among them. This inclined them to speak positively about their experiences at adidas, thus enhancing the company’s ability to attract top talent and solidify our reputation as an employer of choice.

The Employee Listening Survey 2023 result serves as a clear testament of our people experience, showcasing a higher level of employee engagement that surpasses the external benchmarks by 14%, an impressive score in well-being, and as anticipated, a robust intent-to-stay score that is 19% higher than the global average.

From a business perspective, the sense of value and empowerment among our people encourages them to perform at their best and be a great contributor of the organisation’s success, and this is evident on adidas’ business growth in 2023.
