Workers Rehabilitation Centre Complex (WRCC) to be established in the Philippines

The facility will include services such as medical rehabilitation, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and more. 

The Philippines' government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to create a rehabilitation centre for workers injured or disabled due to workplace accidents.

According to an ⁠article by the Philippines Department of Labour and Employment, the MOU signing took place during the Labour Day celebration at the Ceremonial Hall of Malacañan Palace in Tanay, Rizal. 

The MOU was signed by the following politicians: 

  1. Bienvenido E. Laguesma, Secretary, ⁠Department of Labour and Employment 
  2. Ma. Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, Secretary, ⁠Department of Environment and Natural Resources  
  3. ⁠ Benjamin Abalos Jr., Secretary, Department of the Interior and Local Government
  4. Manuel Bonoan, Secretary, Department of Public Works and Highways 
  5. Rizalino Acuzar, Secretary, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development
  6. Rafael A. Tanjuatco, Tanay Mayor 

The signed MOU was presented to Philippines' President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. 

The facility will include the following services:

  • medical rehabilitation, 
  • physiotherapy, 
  • occupational therapy, 
  • sensory therapy, 
  • work hardening, 
  • industrial rehabilitation, 
  • prosthetic and orthotics, 
  • neuro-robotics and cybernetics, 
  • vocational rehabilitation,
  • reskilling, 
  • upskilling, and 
  • livelihood.

Other facilities such as the ones below will also be included in the longer-term plan: 

  1. hostel,
  2. transportation hub, 
  3. sports arena, 
  4. dispensary, 
  5. workers' training centre, 
  6. convention hall, 
  7. housing project under the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), 
  8. agri-tourism centre, 
  9. pineapple plantation area, 
  10. botanical garden, and 
  11. commercial complex

After its construction in Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal, the WRCC will go on to focus on comprehensive disability management and rehabilitation for individuals with work-related disabilities (PWRDs).

Labour Undersecretary Benjo Santos M. Benavidez, said in his opening remarks, that the WRCC will fulfil a past plan aimed at offering PWRDs a fresh chance and the opportunity to actively participate in the economy and society.

President Marcos Jr. said: "The 50-hectare WRCC project of the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) is another milestone that will serve as a sanctuary and a place of rehabilitation for our workers and soldiers who suffer from work-related injuries." 

The centre is owned by the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC), an agency attached to the DOLE, which is mandated to provide compensation and succour for PWRDs in the public and private sectors.
