Civil servants in Singapore to receive 1.1-month year-end bonus for 2022

Civil servants in Singapore to receive 1.1-month year-end bonus for 2022

Civil servants in grades equivalent to MX15 and below will receive an additional one-time payment of S$700, the Public Service Division said.

Civil servants in Singapore can look forward to receiving a 1.1-month year-end Annual Variable Component this year, and those in grades equivalent to MX15 and below will receive an additional one-time payment of S$700.

Announcing this on Thursday (24 November 2022), the Public Service Division (PSD) said: "This year-end payment takes into consideration the economic outlook while recognising the hard work of public officers. The Government will continue to pay the Non-Pensionable Annual Allowance (NPAA, i.e. 13th month bonus) of one month to all civil servants."

The decision by the Government, in consultation with the public sector unions, comes in lieu of the economy's expansion by 4.1% year-on-year in Q3 2022, along with total employment growth, while also noting a "slight uptick" in unemployment rates in September and a rise in retrenchment figures over the quarter.

In response to the announcement, Cham Hui Fong, Deputy Secretary-General, National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), shared: "We had a good discussion with the Public Service Division this year to recognise the good work of our public sector employees. In view of the reasonably good economic growth this year albeit looming uncertainties ahead, the year-end payment of 1.1 month recognises their good work, and the additional lump sum signifies the Government’s progressive support to the lower grade officers.

"NTUC encourages employers and employees to continue upskilling and upgrading, to stay relevant and competitive in these changing times. We call on the private sector companies to do the same in appreciating and taking care of their employees this year-end."
