The Taiwanese restaurant brand said it would properly handle employees' financial compensation and placement issues.
Taiwanese restaurant brand Din Tai Fung has announced its plan to gradually shut down 14 branches in Beijing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Xiamen and Xi'an by 31 October 2024. The affected branches are mainly in Northern China.
The restaurant said in a statement that the above-mentioned branches are currently operated by Beijing Hengtaifeng Catering Co. The company’s license is set to expire and will not be extended. Din Tai Fung has, therefore, decided to terminate the brand authorisation in advance.
Other branches in Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, Nanjing, Jiaxing, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, however, will not be affected and will operate as usual.
Din Tai Fung thanked customers for their long-term support and stated that it would properly handle employees' financial compensation and placement issues, as well as protect the legitimate rights of customers and suppliers.
It is reported that about 800 employees will be laid off.
