Faces of HR: Ananda Dev's Dr. Santhipharp Khamsa-ard champions a 'beat yesterday' mantra for a modern organisation

The essence of bettering oneself is captured in Dr. Santhipharp Khamsa-ard, CPO, Ananda Development's philosophy — when talents can improve themselves daily and stay on the right track, they can effectively lead others and drive business success.

With generative AI taking the world by storm, there's an air of uncertainty about the future of human capital. However, this technological advancement also underscores the need for human capital to coexist with AI, streamlining processes and increasing efficiency without sacrificing the human touch of care and empathy.

Dr. Santhipharp Khamsa-ard, Chief People Officer at Ananda Development, echos this sentiment. A seasoned HR leader, Dr. Santhipharp has extensive experience across various industries, including power energy, FMCG, automotive, real estate, and healthcare.

Recognised as 'Thailand Business Sector: Person of the Year 2021', he excels in business leadership, organisational development, and regional CSR efforts.

With an international background in strategic HR partnerships, driving growth and talent development, Dr. Santhipharp has successfully led greenfield projects in Thailand, Laos, and Malaysia.

He also leverages his proficiency in cross-cultural management, change management, diversity and inclusion, and all HR functions to achieve remarkable results.

With his session at the inaugural Transform Talent Thailand 2024 coming up in August, the leader talks to Mary Ann Bundukin about his early learnings in HR, why he believes it is so important we "beat yesterday" in a move to transform talent into what the business needs, and more.

Q Thinking back to your first day in HR, what is the most important learning that sticks with you until today?

My goal is “HR should be the part of business”. I have spent the first 10 years with all functions in the company, looking back on that period, when we balance 'Inside out' and 'Outside in', we can see the gap of understanding. Our employees have different goals. To know the business with all dimensions, we can support to implement corporate goals and think carefully for cascading methods to the right audiences. As HR, we are the blood that circulates to all organs and the body. For any new business or opportunity, fast learning, and easy adaptation are essential.

Q What steps do you believe are necessary to transform today's talent into the talent that the business needs?

Beat yesterday. Everything can change fast and please do not stick with traditional platforms. Being ready for change should pop up in your minds every day. I influence talents to 'Beat yesterday' — it’s a simple challenge to people of all activity levels. It captures the essence of bettering oneself, where talents can lead themselves to make it better each day (to stay on) the right tracks, then they can lead others and the businesses.

Finally, we will create a modern organisation by using the pool of talents who are open to new initiatives and going beyond.

Q Could you share emerging trends that you believe will have the most significant impact on HR in the next few years?

Many HR people may think about generative AI and how robots can support HR tasks in the near future. For me, I think about how to handle AI and maintain the quality of understanding of our employees because when we initiate many modern tools, technology can do many things faster and (with a) more systematic approach. One day, people will have less of care, less of empathy and create the metallic environment. Human capital should strengthen the value of understanding and utilise AI to add more beneficial outcomes.

Q What are you most looking forward to in your session at #TransformTalentTH?

I would like to listen (to) the new ideas from all talents. I hope #TransformTalentTH will create a platform for them to discuss, brainstorm and open their minds, and to find their real expectations and understand them from the get-go. I think we will get the new things and create more platforms for support the future.
