This special arrangement is expected to be reviewed again before it lapses on 18 February 2022.

With the local situation cited to be "severe", the Hong Kong government has extended the special work arrangements for government employees to 18 February 2022. Thus, all civil servants will be required to continue working from home as far as possible, except for those involved in the provision of emergency services and essential public services, as well as in anti-epidemic efforts.

The HKSAR Government is expected to review these arrangements before they lapse on 18 February, as it fights to contain this fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic as top priority.

During this period, Government departments will continue to provide emergency services and essential public services.

The statement noted: "A large number of government employees have steadfastly dedicated themselves to the anti-epidemic efforts. Depending on the development of the epidemic situation and actual needs, departments will continue to proactively mobilise their staff members to support the anti-epidemic efforts in full force."

Further, individual departments will make suitable arrangements and announcements separately based on the demand for their services.

Meanwhile, private sector employees were appealed to once again to "allow their staff members to work from home as far as possible so as to reduce the flow of people and social contact in the community".
