The top three countries ranked by their shares of Malaysia’s international flows were China, Singapore, and Indonesia.
Malaysia has ranked 26th in terms of global connectedness, having dropped two spots.
DHL's recent Global Connectedness Index ranks countries based on their international trade, capital, information, and people flows. It assesses these flows along two dimensions:
- depth (size of international flows relative to domestic activity)
- breadth (distribution of flows across origin/ destination countries)
The top 10 globally connected markets were:
- Singapore
- Netherlands
- Ireland
- Luxemburg
- Malta
- Switzerland
- Belgium
- United Arab Emirates
- United Kingdom
- Hong Kong SAR
Looking at Malaysia, the nation ranked the highest in its trade pillar, with a score of 65.1 out or 100. This translated into a rank of 7 out of 181, up two spots from 2017.
Its capital pillar, information pillar, and people pillar were ranked 37th, 56th, and 59th respectively.

- Singapore (9%)
- Indonesia (8%)
- United States (5%)
- India (4%)
- Bangladesh (3%)
- Japan (3%)
- Pakistan (2%)
