Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will take on the role of Prime Minister on the same day at 8pm.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be stepping down as Prime Minister of Singapore on 15 May 2024 and Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will accordingly be sworn in as the country's PM.
In a press release by the Prime Minister's Office today (15 April), it was shared: "He (PM Lee) will formally advise the President to appoint Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Mr Lawrence Wong to succeed him."
Further, it stated that DPM Wong has received unanimous support of the PAP MPs and, that the new Prime Minister will be sworn in at 8pm on 15 May 2024 at the Istana.
Announcing the handover on Instagram, PM Lee said: "I will relinquish my role as Prime Minister on 15 May 2024 and DPM @lawrencewongst will be sworn in as the next Prime Minister on the same day."
He noted "a leadership transition is a significant moment", while citing the 4G team's work towards refreshing the nation's social agenda and developing the agenda for a new generation.
"The 4G team are committed to keeping Singapore working well and moving ahead. These will always be top priorities for the government."
Concluding, PM Lee urged all Singaporeans to work with the new leadership team to create a brighter future for Singapore.
