Xin chào, Việt Nam! We're entering the second month of 2024 and, now that you are settling in to the new working year, you are likely looking forward to any upcoming holidays to get a quick breather in and re-charge — on top of your annual leaves, of course.
If you are thinking of planning a short trip over a long weekend, or pacing your leave days out to maximise them, here's a list of national holidays coming up this year, that you can bookmark for easy reference all year round:
All credits go to Vietnam Briefing for putting together this list based on the official release by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs of Vietnam (MoLISA).
Vietnam's 2024 public holidays
New Year 2024 | Monday, 1 January |
Lunar New Year (Tet) | Thursday, 8 February - Wednesday, 14 February |
Hung Kings Commemoration Day | Thursday, 18 April |
Victory Day/Reunification Day | Tuesday, 30 April |
Labour Day | Wednesday, 1 May |
National Day | Monday, 2 September |
As a reference for HR, according to MoLISA, and as cited by Vietnam Briefing, an employee who works overtime will be paid an amount based on the piece rate or actual salary.
In the case of public holidays, this would mean employees should be paid at least 300% of their piece rate/actual salary, in addition to the salary specificed in Clause 1 and Clause 2 of the Labor Law of 2019 and Decree 145/2020/ND-CP.
