Malaysia confirms 5th May as moonsighting date to determine start of Ramadan

As announced by the Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, the sighting of the new moon of Ramadan will be held on 5 May 2019 (Sunday) to determine the start of the fasting month.

The snippet of the announcement is shared below:

 

Once successfully sighted, the Office will then confirm the date for the beginning of the fast in Malaysia, which is currently slated to begin on 6 May (Monday), which would then be a public holiday.

As with previous years, a total of 29 locations throughout Malaysia have been set for the sighting. The locations earmarked for the sighting include spots in Sarawak, Terengganu, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, and the other states. Map below:
