Malaysia extends CMCO and RMCO in designated states to 14 April 2021

The National Security Council has also stated that from 1 April, all private sector companies will be able to operate at 100% capacity for management and operations support group in the CMCO/PKPB areas.

Malaysia has extended its Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO, or PKPB) in Johor, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Selangor by two weeks, starting from 1 April (Thursday) to 14 April 2021 (Wednesday). 

Similarly, the Recovery MCO (RMCO, or PKPP) in the states of Kedah, Labuan, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Putrajaya, and Terengganu has also been extended for the same two-week period.

Meanwhile, the CMCO in Sarawak will continue effective 30 March, to 12 April.

The above was announced by Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob, in a press conference on Tuesday evening (30 March).

In addition to the extensions, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri also announced that effective 1 April, the current SOP that only 30% of employees are allowed to work from office during the CMCO/PKPB will no longer apply, Bernama reported. 

According to Bernama's report, the Senior Minister said this decision was made following recommendations by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, to allow companies' management and supervisory groups to operate at the maximum level. One reason noted for this was that work-from-home was difficult for manufacturing companies to implement, given their operations could not be conducted remotely.

In line with this, the National Security Council has stated that from 1 April, all private sector companies will be able to operate at 100% capacity for management and operations support group in the CMCO/PKPB areas.

As for the public service sector, this would depend on the relevant circular/instructions received from the Public Service Department (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam).
