Malaysia opens new Expatriate Satellite Centre at KLIA Terminal 2

Along with the first centre in Terminal 1, the ESC facilitates the immediate issuance of Employment Passes, Professional Visit Passes, and more upon arrival.

The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) has unveiled the Expatriate Satellite Centre (ESC) at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 in collaboration with Talent Corporation Malaysia (TalentCorp).

Following the success of the initial ESC launched at Terminal 1 in 2021, the new ESC at Terminal 2 hopes to further enhance Malaysia's appeal to investors and attract high-skilled talent.

At the launch ceremony, Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail highlighted how the ESC demonstrates JIM's commitment, in partnership with TalentCorp and its subsidiary MYXpats, to streamline immigration processes, with the aim to contribute to the nation's development.

Sharing some context, he stated that Malaysia has seen an increase in expatriates, and is becoming a preferred destination for multinational companies and investors. As the Minister affirmed, this trend is expected to positively impact the country's economic growth, in turn creating more high-value, high-growth job opportunities for Malaysians.

Both ESCs at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 facilitate the immediate issuance upon arrival of Employment Passes (EP), Professional Visit Passes (PVP), Dependant Passes (DP), and the Residence Pass-Talent (RP-T). These services are available to companies under the purview of the Expatriate Services Division and Malaysia Expatriate Service Centre, the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, and the Iskandar Regional Development Authority.

The fully functional ESC at KLIA Terminal 2 is located on level 2 of the arrival hall and operates 24 hours a day, offering continuous and dedicated support to expatriates arriving from all around the world.

According to Thomas Mathew, TalentCorp’s Group CEO, the enhanced immigration service process via the ESC, initially a 30-day processing period, will now save time and increase management efficiency for companies with immediate expatriate needs.

From November 2021 to 21 July 2024, a total of 22,390 passes have been issued at the ESC KLIA Terminal 1, resulting in estimated savings of over RM330mn for businesses in Malaysia.

The launch event of the ESC was also attended by Dato' Ruslin bin Jusoh, Director General of the Immigration Department of Malaysia, and representatives from the international business chambers in Malaysia.
