This rebranding aligns with MITI's role in both foreign and local investments, as well as strengthening international trade, the ministry shared.
Malaysia's Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Kementerian Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri) has rebranded and will now be known as the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Kementerian Pelaburan, Perdagangan dan Industri), retaining the acronym "MITI".
In a statement announcing this on Wednesday, MITI said the rebranding aligns with its function, which is to lead and encourage the entry of foreign investments, empower local investments, strengthen international trade, and empower sustainable industrial development.
The decision is also in line with the national agenda to further boost investment promotion activities as outlined under the National Investment Aspiration, in efforts to continue the redevelopment of Malaysia's economy as outlined in the Malaysia MADANI framework.
With this rebranding, MITI reaffirmed its commitment to attracting new investments, expanding the international trade network, as well as strengthening the existing industrial sector as a major contributor to the nation's economic development for the wellbeing of the people and the business sector, especially SMEs.
