Ninja Van lays off 5% of Singapore workforce: A look at the outplacement support provided

As part of overall support provided, individuals with transferable skills have been transitioned to support the Group's newly launched verticals in B2B restock and cold chain.

Ninja Van Group, a tech-enabled 3PL company, has laid off 5% of its workforce in Singapore.

Sharing about the reason behind this decision, a Ninja Van Group spokesperson said in a statement to HRO: "Earlier this year, we announced our expansion into other logistics verticals of B2B restock and cold chain, made possible with our existing e-commerce infrastructure and tech-enabled logistics solutions.

"In line with the Group’s direction, we have reviewed the roles within the organisation to assess its alignment with our future needs. Unfortunately, despite our efforts to minimise impact, we were unable to avoid layoffs impacting 5% of our colleagues in Singapore."

When asked about the steps taken to support employees where needed, the spokesperson said individuals with transferable skills have been transitioned to support the Group's newly launched verticals in B2B restock and cold chain.

At the same time, affected employees "have received a reasonable severance package to support their transition beyond Ninja Van."

Commonalities across the package include:

  • One month of severance pay per full year of employment.
  • Medical insurance and mental health support have been extended till 31 December 2024.
  • Garden leave until their last day working day.
  • The deadline for exercising vested options is extended from 30 days to one year.
  • Career transition support in the form of either CV reviews, and interview training.
  • Company chat and office access will be kept to facilitate proper handovers and farewell.

In April 2024, the Group announced that it was laying off part of its tech team in the region, following a cost evaluation.
