Talent development has always been a key strategic priority for AIA. Ever since its story began in 1919, AIA has viewed talent and leadership development as an integral component of its business. Embracing a high performing culture with care and respect, AIA Hong Kong and Macau (AIA) aims to foster a learning culture that supports the development of its people’s key capabilities and disruptive mindset. This lays a solid foundation to help them succeed in their current roles and provides a platform for meaningful, long-term careers with AIA.

Holistic Approach to Nurturing Talent at All Levels

AIA practices a holistic approach to learning and development, whereby knowledge and skills are accumulated from on-the-job experience, collaborative projects, internal transfer opportunities, structured classrooms, and over 8000+ digital learning courses supported by other activities including day-to-day coaching.

The company continually invests in its employees through development programmes for different levels, for instance its flagship programme SPRINT Leadership Development. Spanning across 1.5 years, SPRINT is a strategic commitment that teaches senior leaders how to think and act like general managers, with modules focusing on leadership, disruptive thinking, collaboration and more. For AIA’s Emerging Talent Learning Curriculum, participants learn how to ‘Lead Self’ effectively, in addition to becoming well informed about the need for an agile collaborative strategy in today’s digital landscape. Another key initiative is the Manager Learning Curriculum, which fosters leadership essentials that empower and motivate team members to deliver stretch targets with quality results.

Adopting the right strategy and connecting with the right people will always lead to the best results. While AIA is building strong talent pipeline for succession planning, three leadership essentials are always at the core of how it works: clarity, courage, and humanity. To ensure its programmes are effective in addressing the needs of its talent, AIA leverages its annual people review to identity individual development needs and design its leadership development curriculum.

Driving a Step Change with TDA

Throughout 2020, AIA has continued to nurture its talentin a virtual manner supported by new technologies including Virtual and Augmented Reality. It also launched a new learning platform ‘Curiosity Lab’. Driven by TDA – technology, digital and analytics, ‘Curiosity Lab’ overarches new initiatives to conduct pilot implementation of new learning solutions to nurture TDA mindset among colleagues.

Looking ahead, AIA will continue to make a step change in TDA to drive its next transformation and invest in its people, to ensure that AIA is a simpler, faster, and more connected organisation than ever before.
