Five Malaysian universities rank among the top 50 universities in Asia, in the latest QS World University Rankings 2021 released today (10 June).
Of these, University Malaya took the 17th spot, followed by University Putra Malaysia in 30th place. Both universities respectively ranked 59th and 132nd worldwide.
Overall, in Asia, the National University of Singapore remained in first place (worldwide: 11), with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore coming in second (worldwide: 13), and China's Tsinghua University rounding off the top three (worldwide: 15).

Methodology
This year’s QS World University Rankings reveals the top 1,000 universities from around the world, covering 80 different locations. There are 47 new entrants in this year’s top 1,000 while over 5,500 universities were evaluated and considered for inclusion.
The universities were evaluated based on:
- Academic Reputation (40%)
- Employer Reputation (10%)
- Faculty/Student Ratio (20%)
- Citations per faculty (20%)
- International Faculty Ratio/International Student Ratio (5% each)
