Complementing this, all foreign visitors can also enjoy passport-less clearance when departing from Singapore.

Singapore residents arriving in and departing from Singapore can now clear immigration at all four of Changi Airport's terminals without the use of passports.

Effective 30 September 2024, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has fully implemented passport-less clearance, instead simply using facial and iris biometrics.

Complementing this, all foreign visitors can also enjoy passport-less clearance when they depart from Singapore.

According to the ICA's update on 24 October (Thursday), nearly 1.5mn travellers have been able to clear immigration without having to present a passport as of 15 October 2024, under the passport-less clearance initiative. This roll-out has helped reduce the average clearance time for each traveller by 60%, from 25 seconds to 10 seconds.

As a reminder, while foreign visitors can utilise the passport-less clearance at Changi Airport when departing Singapore, they are still required to present their passport for immigration clearance upon arrival.

Regardless, all travellers are advised to still bring along their passport as these may be required for immigration clearance at their destination countries. At the same time, ICA may also require travellers to produce their passport for verification.

For clarity, the steps for passport-less clearance at the airport automated lanes are as follows:

  • Submit the SG Arrival Card within three days before arrival
  • Scan your facial and iris biometrics at the automated lane. Upon verification, enter the lane.
  • At the second flapper, scan your facial to verify your identity. Upon successful verification, exit the lane.
