In 2025, work will change as ‘superworkers’ use AI to work smarter and faster. Companies must train employees, redesign roles, and upgrade HR systems to stay ahead.
The workplace is changing faster than ever; and in 2025, HR and leadership teams can expect to see a greater influence of AI on employee productivity
In his HR and Leadership Predictions for 2025 report HR expert Josh Bersin predicts the rise of 'superworkers'—employees who use AI to boost productivity and innovation. To adapt, companies must focus on AI automation across key areas and implement critical strategies for growth.
As outlined in the predictions, AI will reshape work in four distinct ways, creating different types of superworkers across industries:
1) Empowered superworker
- Works with AI tools to enhance results and productivity.
- Example: Software engineers using AI coders to improve coding speed and accuracy.
2) Efficient superworker
- Uses AI to perform the same tasks faster and more effectively.
- Example: Office workers with AI-powered tools such as MS Copilot to simplify repetitive tasks.
3) Superworker manager
- Manages AI systems to scale output and quality, enabling new job roles and career paths.
- Example: HR professionals using automated AI recruiters to streamline hiring processes.
4) Productive superworker
- Oversees AI-driven processes to improve operations and customer experiences.
- Example: Retail managers supervising AI systems for automated checkout and inventory management.
Keeping the above in mind, to thrive in 2025 and beyond, companies must adopt five key imperatives – all of which place emphasis on technology and organisational change:
1) Redesign work, jobs, and organisational models
Companies must shift focus towards customer needs, outputs, and measurable success.
By integrating AI into work processes, organisations can create a new structure of responsibilities and accountability.
2) Create a dynamic talent model to drive talent density
- Organisations should adopt flexible systems that enable employees to move into new roles quickly.
- Instead of hiring new talent, the emphasis will be on reskilling and utilising existing staff effectively.
3) Redefine leadership, culture, and employee brand
- Leaders must build an inclusive and accountable workplace culture.
- Frontline employees will play a key role in shaping AI innovations and driving organisational change.
4) Accelerate the shift to Systemic HR
- HR itself must adopt AI to break down silos and focus on solving problems rather than just service delivery.
- Cross-training HR teams will enable them to handle dynamic workplace challenges.
5) Rethink the HR tech stack with a new product and operations roadmap
- Companies need AI-powered systems to replace outdated HR tools, making processes faster and more efficient.
- This redesign will enhance productivity and improve the overall employee experience.
