Up the ranks: Animoca Brands' new Group HR Director May Szeto to drive people strategy and transformation efforts

For this role, she will continue to be based in Hong Kong, where the company is headquartered.

In a series of appointments by digital entertainment, blockchain, and gamification specialist Animoca Brands, May Szeto will take on the role of Group HR Director. 

In this role, Szeto will develop and lead group HR functions, driving people strategy and transformation efforts to streamline processes to support organisational development. She will continue to be based in Hong Kong, where the company is headquartered. 

Szeto brings 20 years of all-rounded HR experience to the gaming brand. Her specialties include change management, organisational development, talent management, and employee relations.

Prior to joining Animoca Brands, Szeto spent seven years at Grosvenor Property where she was the head of HR for Asia. During her time there she built the APAC HR team, designed and implemented the HR agenda to enable the business for re-positioning, and developed a high-performing team.

Before joining Grosvenor, Szeto worked for J.P. Morgan Chase Bank, Nomura Securities, MGPA (now part of Blackrock), and Bloomberg L.P. in various regional HR roles.

Animoca Brands, which has a portfolio of over 380 investments, has offices and subsidiaries in the United States, Canada, Argentina, South Korea, Finland, Estonia, France, Germany, Australia, and the Czech Republic.

Other senior appointments announced by the company include:

  • Jared Shaw, Chief Financial Officer
  • Jamii Quoc, Head of Legal - Commercial and M&A
  • Samuel Tse, M&A Director
  • Josh Du, Head of Digital Assets Portfolio

Commenting on the appointments, Evan Auyang, President of Animoca Brands, said: "We are excited to have May, Jamii, Samuel, and Josh joining Animoca Brands’ leadership team in the company’s critical capability areas. They are all highly accomplished senior leaders who contribute a wealth of knowledge and experience."
