Up the ranks: Daniel Chia appointed DKSH Singapore's Country Director of Human Resources

In this role, Chia, based in Singapore, will spearhead HR for the country's business units, and will be focusing on culture, capabilities building, and talent management.

Market expansion services provider DSKH Singapore has appointed Daniel Chia Han Yong as its Country Director of Human Resources, effective May 2022. In this role, Chia will be based in Singapore, and report to the Vice President of HR of Southeast Asia and India, Viknesh Nambiar, who is based in Malaysia.

As the Country Director of HR, Chia will spearhead in-country HR functions across the main business units in Singapore, namely consumer goods, healthcare, performance materials & technology, and DKSH Smollan field marketing. In addition, while speaking to Human Resources Online, he shared that his current role will take care of the supply chain management (SCM) aspect of DKSH's businesses. Further within the HR space, Chia said that he will be focusing on culture, capabilities building, and talent management.

With regard to his personal goal, he is looking to "thrive under the new environment, and managing complexities due to the nature of the business".

Prior to this role, Chia was the Head of Human Resources at Samsung Electronics Singapore for four years - heading the overall HR functions for Singapore electronics market, and regionally for Samsung SEA International Procurement Centre and software quality engineering. This came after tenures at Carlsberg Group as Head of Human Resources & Corporate Affairs, and at Nestle Singapore as Manager of Human Resources.

When asked what is the number one talent concern in Singapore, and in APAC at the moment, Chia explained that most industries are facing the impact of the 'Great Resignation' era. As such, there is an intense war for talent, and companies - as with DKSH Singapore - will need to look into ways of creating talent from the ground up, such as through management traineeship, internship programmes, and mid-career recruitment to develop a talent pipeline.

In March 2022, DKSH increased its strategic focus on digitalisation by appointing Sam Oh, Chief Information Officer, to the Executive Committee Board. Stefan P. Butz, CEO, DKSH said: "I am very pleased to appoint Sam as new member of the Executive Committee. I am confident that he will continue to accelerate our digital transformation and contribute to our strategy for sustainable profitable growth."
