Winning Secrets: Asian Hospital and Medical Center believes that there is a leader in all of its people

Rodel Jr. Morales, Manager, Talent Development shares how this has been made possible through a 'shared leadership' culture.

With the belief that leadership development is a culture of excellence that propels it towards its goals, Asian Hospital and Medical Center aims to nurture leaders within its organisation.

This culture of shared leadership won the organisation several awards at the HR Excellence Awards 2024, Philippines:

  • Silver in Excellence in Leadership Development, and
  • Bronze in Excellence in Employee Advocacy and Brand Ambassadors.

In this interview with HRO, Rodel Jr. Morales, Manager, Talent Development shares how leadership not only helps Asian Hospital and Medical Center prosper, but also goes a long way in futureproofing the organisation by creating more leaders.

Q What was the motivation that sparked your passion & business case for pursuing your outstanding people strategy?

One of Asian Hospital’s motivation for its campaign is the desire to live up to our mission and values. The service culture is honed first and foremost so that our employees develop a story to tell and makes them our best brand ambassadors.

Asian Hospital is for everybody. Part of AHMC’s vision is to reach out to the community that it serves, rooted in its concept of value-based healthcare.

AHMC aims to nurture leaders, with the belief that there is a leader in all of us and this has been made possible through a 'shared leadership' culture. Asian Hospital believes that leadership development is a culture of excellence that propels AHMC towards our goals.

Q Looking back, can you share a challenge that you overcame in your journey of HR excellence? How did you triumph?

Though we are aware that no effective organisation's foundation will be achieved overnight, nothing seemed simple at first. The inability of certain leaders to adapt, the readiness to take on more responsibility or leadership roles, and establishing the new shared leadership culture were some of the challenges faced. The cohesive and steady resolve of the Senior Leadership Team geared in one direction overcame these difficulties.

Getting everyone on-board was not a walk in the park and cannot be done overnight but definitely achievable by constant communication, engagement and everyone’s dedication. Asian Hospital and Medical Center held on to its vision and the belief that impactful change is key to be able to move forward and grow. Based on the evaluations done internally and as evident by the growth of AHMC’s customers, majority of the entire community were on-board with the campaign.

Q Beyond the recognition, what impact do you hope your feature in the HR Excellence Awards would have on the HR community and manpower landscape?

Beyond the recognition, Asian Hospital and Medical Center strives to be a beacon of inspiration to other organisations.

Leaders play a huge role not only for the business to prosper but more importantly, to futureproof the organisation by creating more leaders — hence, the shared leadership culture was driven.

Likewise, we also want to highlight the importance of our employees being our own Brand.

Q Could you share some advice you would give to others aspiring to follow in your footsteps?

  • Develop a strong mission & vision. Make sure that the entire organisation rallies behind that mission & vision.
  • Empower people by sharing responsibilities and leadership.
  • Celebrate success.

Q Let's talk inspiration! Who has been a driving force behind your success?

Everything is rooted in our human capital – our PEOPLE.

We ensure that we uphold our tagline “Global Expertise with a Filipino Heart.” We strongly believe that our employees are globally competitive through the various trainings, expert professionals and excellent leaders who mentor our people. We continue to hone their skills and instill a shared leadership culture where people know that each and everyone is respected.

Our people have the Filipino Heart who extend their service to our customers with full commitment. The passion and the compassion that they show to our customers is a testament that our people are the best part of the organisation. Customers go back to us not only because of competence but more importantly, the service culture that we provide.
