Business owners in Singapore must declare on-site manpower details during Phase Two (Heightened Alert)

This is in light of the current directive on work-from-home being the default for the period 16 May to 13 June 2021.

All business owners in Singapore have been directed to inform the Government on their staff numbers working on-site during Phase Two (Heightened Alert), effective 22 May 2021. This is in light of the current directive on work-from-home being the default for the period 16 May to 13 June 2021.

This notification comes from Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), which released a statement on Facebook, clarifying that this notification is “genuine”.

This move “will enable the Government to monitor the number of people at their work premises and lower COVID-19 transmission risks by reducing workplace interactions,” as shared by MTI.

The manpower update can be done via GoBusiness Singapore, a government resource platform for business owners to continue operations safely amidst the pandemic. In it, business owners across various industries, including those in the marine and offshore sectors, can follow a step-by-step guide on how to submit details of on-site manpower, as well as of additional manpower.

The process around this declaration is not new, as it was first put in place in 2020, when the economy was gradually opening up—before it was put on hold when the Government imposed Phase Two. With the current Heightened Alert period, however, the declaration is duly required again.

Business owners, by now, would’ve received official emails from MTI via postman.gov.sg, a government mass communication tool, reminding them about submitting the declaration.

At GoBusiness Singapore, employers are reminded: “Under Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), all firms are required to implement work-from-home (WFH) arrangements as the default. Employers must ensure that employees who are able to work from home do so.”

Phase Two (Heightened Alert) is effective 16 May to 13 June 2021.
