The country has also upgraded its visa-free policy and extended the maximum length of stay for travellers.
China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian announced at the regular press conference on 22 November 2024 the extension of the country's visa waiver programme to nine countries, including Japan.
From 30 November 2024 to 31 December 2025, ordinary passport holders from Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia, and Japan can travel to China visa-free on a trial basis.
In addition, the country has decided to upgrade its visa-free policy further by granting visa waivers to travellers for exchange purposes. The maximum length of stay will also be extended from currently 15 days to 30 days.
This means starting from 30 November 2024, ordinary passport holders from 38 countries, including the above-mentioned nine countries, can be exempted from visas to enter China and they can stay for no more than 30 days for business, tourism, family visits, exchange, and transit purposes.
